Put the subject in the first few words. Say whether the thread is a question, a roundup, or a note. Skip all-caps, skip emoji stacks, and skip tags that do not match the post. “Hot” is not a tag you assign yourself. If the thread changes subject halfway through, start another thread or ask for a title edit. Do not quietly turn a login post into a request.

The bad pattern is a title that could belong to any thread on the board. “Looking for this” tells me nothing. Name the thing. If you cannot say it in the title, the thread is not ready.

We rewrite titles that are only punctuation or a plea. You can save the edit by doing it yourself while the thread is young. Misleading tags that pull people into the wrong board get removed, and repeat cases get a warning. See the rules if that sounds vague. It is not.

Same idea inside the post. First sentence states the point. A shelf of links with no sentence is not a spotlight, it is a mess the next reader has to decode. More on that in reading the room.

I keep a private list of titles I can find again without remembering the author. Every one of them names the subject and the year, when the year matters. Steal that habit.
