Look at the last few replies before you post. If the room is in the middle of a specific question, do not drop a new one on top. If you are opening a spotlight, the first post should stand alone: what you are recommending, why it is worth a thread, and what the reader should ignore. Later replies can add corrections. They should not be the only place the point exists.

I rewrote an old spotlight this way last month. Moved the recommendation out of reply forty and into the opening post. Traffic on the thread got calmer because people stopped asking for the point.

Tone matters as much as structure. The lounge can be loose. The desk cannot. A joke that would land in the check-in reads as noise next to a serious ask. Match the board you are actually in. The map is on the forums guide if the names are still fuzzy.

Also match the rules. A well-structured post that harasses someone, shares private details, or ignores the age line still comes down. Clever formatting is not a defense. Rules first, style second.

Practical test I use: if I met this thread with no memory of today, could I explain it in one sentence after the first post? If not, it is not finished, even if it is long.
